Ibadan: The Postal Manager for the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) in Oyo State, Mrs. Feyisara Umossoh, has made a call to the state's residents urging them not to abandon the agency. She assured that NIPOST has embraced automation to enhance its service delivery.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mrs. Umossoh highlighted the transition from manual processes to automated systems, noting that NIPOST counters are now automated and aligned with the Federal Government's cashless policy, eliminating the need for physical cash transactions. "Our services are automated, allowing for easy tracking and tracing of items," she stated during an event in Ibadan celebrating the 2025 World Post Day.
The theme of this year's celebration is "Post For People: Local Service." Umossoh emphasized NIPOST's continued relevance, not only in postal services but also in broader service to humanity. She pointed out that NIPOST engages in commerce and e-commerce and that the post office represents a crucial part of community life beyond just letter delivery or stamp purchases.
Reflecting on the historical role of postmasters, Umossoh noted that they were once seen as community custodians, helping to write letters and send packages on behalf of community members, and acting as trusted intermediaries between urban and rural areas.
Umossoh also recounted NIPOST's pioneering role in the history of money transfer services in Nigeria. She mentioned that Western Union initially operated through the post office, and although technology now allows for money transfers via mobile devices, NIPOST's foundational services remain significant.
In addition to discussing technological advancements, Umossoh used the occasion to honor exemplary staff members, both active and retired, for their dedication to the agency. "We are honoring our retired colleagues, whom I refer to as generals, for their service to humanity and their efforts to ensure NIPOST performs optimally," she said. Acknowledging 44 retirees since January, she expressed hope that this recognition would inspire current employees to continue giving their best to NIPOST.
