UNN Alumni Donate Essential Items to Linguistics Department 21 Years After Graduation

Nsukka: The Head of Department (HOD), Linguistics, University of Nigeria Nsukka, Prof. Joy Uguru, has commended ex-students of the department for remembering to give back to their alma mater. Uguru made the commendation in Nsukka, while receiving chairs, tables, ceiling fans and other items donated by the Class of 2004 of the department. She said the good gesture by the Class of 2004 should be emulated by other ex-students to enable them to come and give back to their alma mater.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the entire department expressed happiness and excitement over the contributions of the Class of 2004, who remembered the department that played a crucial role in their success. The class not only donated essential items but also presented a plaque of appreciation and cash gifts to some of their lecturers. Uguru expressed her hope that their act of generosity would be rewarded abundantly.

In a remark, the Coordinator of the Class of 2004, Mrs. Edith Ike-Eboh, described the occasion as a homecoming and a reunion, celebrating the values and memories that shaped their academic journey. Represented by Mrs. Abigail Ifeanyi-Eke, Ike-Eboh reflected on the department's role in shaping their minds and broadening their perspectives. She highlighted the importance of preserving indigenous languages and promoting intercultural understanding.

The Class of 2004 takes pride in the achievements of its graduates across various sectors. While presenting the modest gifts, Ike-Eboh emphasized that these items are tokens of love, respect, and solidarity. She expressed hope that they would serve as valuable resources to students and staff, symbolizing the lasting impact of the department on its graduates.

Prof. Chris Agbedo, a lecturer who received a plaque of appreciation, shared his overwhelming gratitude for the donation and the recognition of the lecturers' efforts. He encouraged all alumni to follow this exemplary act of giving back to their alma mater.
