UNIPORT Dedicates Convocation Arena to Minister Nyesom Wike

Port harcourt: The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) in Rivers State has named its newly inaugurated convocation arena in honor of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The dedication took place during the university's 35th Combined Convocation and 50th Anniversary celebration.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the official inauguration of the arena was performed on Saturday by the Sole Administrator of Rivers, retired Vice Adm. Ibok-Ete Ibas. This event marked a significant milestone, as the first convocation in 1982 was held in the university's old arena. Prof. Owunari Georgewill, the Vice-Chancellor, expressed pride in celebrating this convocation in a newly built edifice, a project realized under Wike's administration in Rivers.

Ibas highlighted the enduring impact of Wike's contributions, emphasizing that the conception and construction of the arena under his leadership are indicative of his commitment to infrastructural and educational advancement. He noted that the ultra-modern arena stands as a symbol of what can be achieved when vision aligns with dedication.

Wike, who also received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Political Science (D.Sc Honoris Causa), expressed his gratitude to the university for the honor bestowed upon him. He acknowledged the foundational role UNIPORT played in his career and reiterated his commitment to giving back to the institution.

Alongside Wike, other notable figures who received honorary doctorate degrees included First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, and Aminu Masari, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Tertiary Education Trust Fund.
