Daura: President Bola Tinubu, President Umaro Sissoco Embal³ of Guinea-Bissau, and Niger Republic Prime Minister Ali Lamine Zeine were among thousands who attended the funeral rites of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the remains of Buhari were conveyed to Nigeria by Vice-President Kashim Shettima and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila. The body was transported aboard a Nigerian Air Force flight - FGT 001, which landed at the Umaru Musa Yar'adua International Airport.
The body was received by President Tinubu, Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, several governors, and other dignitaries. A farewell parade was held to honor the late former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, after which his remains were transported to Daura by road.
The funeral prayer, led by Imam Hassan Yusuf, took place at the Daura Helipad after 4 p.m. Among the attendees were former Nigerien President Mahamadou Issoufou, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, members of the National Assembly, and several Emirs including those of Daura, Katsina, Zazzau, Dutse, and Kazaure.
Notable business figures such as Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal were also present at the burial. After the funeral prayer, the body was taken to Buhari's personal residence for burial.
The event was attended by thousands, many of whom were initially denied access to the venue but later admitted. Residents expressed their admiration for Buhari's virtues, noting his integrity, honesty, and discipline. Salisu Lawal highlighted Buhari's connection to the people and his willingness to help them. Aliyu Nasiru described Buhari's death as a significant loss and a vacuum that will be difficult to fill, emphasizing that he will be remembered for his good virtues. He prayed for Almighty Allah to forgive Buhari's shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.
