Kaduna: The Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaam Sulaiman-Ibrahim, announced that President Bola Tinubu has significantly strengthened the ministry's ability to empower women across the nation, including in the North. Sulaiman-Ibrahim made this statement during her presentation at the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation's two-day session focused on government-citizen engagement.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the minister emphasized that the president's support has enabled the ministry to fully activate its areas of mandate, particularly in empowering women and families. She highlighted that with the backing of President Tinubu, the ministry is better positioned to deliver its services effectively and inclusively, ensuring that no segment of the population is overlooked.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim pointed out that several existing laws, such as the Child Rights Act and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, are undergoing reviews to align with current realities. She stressed the importance of these policy reforms in addressing prevalent issues like gender-based violence and incest in communities. The minister expressed confidence that strengthened legal instruments, supported by President Tinubu's efforts, would ensure that perpetrators of such crimes face justice.
Furthermore, Sulaiman-Ibrahim noted that advancing the Women Agenda remains a priority for all related agencies. She disclosed plans for the Ministry of Women Affairs to collaborate with the Ministry of Trade and Investment and the Chambers of Commerce and Industry to better define and support women-led businesses.
