Abuja: The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, emphasized the commitment of President Bola Tinubu's administration to ensuring continuity in government policies and governance stability. This assertion was made during the inauguration and maiden lecture of the Renewed Hope Grassroots Movement (RHGM) in Abuja. According to News Agency of Nigeria, Akume, represented by Mr. Nadunga Gagare, Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs, in the Office of the SGF, highlighted that continuity is not merely a governance principle but a moral duty essential for sustainable development and prosperity. The lecture, themed 'Continuity in Governance and Government Policies: Panacea to Sustainable Development in Nigeria,' was deemed both timely and crucial for national advancement. Akume pointed out that one significant challenge in Nigeria's history has been the frequent abandonment of policies, projects, and programs following changes in leadership. This pattern of discontinuit y has repeatedly hindered progress, led to resource wastage, and slowed development. He underscored that sustainable development relies on consistency, stating that projects initiated by one administration should be completed by its successor. He further emphasized that Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda aims to fortify national institutions, implement enduring reforms, and build systems that effectively serve the populace. The movement is seen as a reflection of the public's desire for inclusive and accountable grassroots development, with the grassroots described as the heartbeat of democracy. Akume added that the Renewed Hope Grassroots Movement has a responsibility to mobilize, educate, and ensure citizen ownership of government policies. Earlier, Amb. Isaac Chigozie Udeh, National Leader of RHGM, expressed the movement's focus on consolidating Tinubu's policies and progress in anticipation of the 2027 elections, urging Nigerians to be patient and likening the current challenges to a pregnancy that will soon bring joy. Additionally, RHGM National Women Leader, Mrs. Soaga Abiola, advocated for increased women's involvement in governance, particularly in deputy roles, emphasizing that national progress relies on women's contributions. The event also featured goodwill messages from RHGM members in the diaspora, patrons, zonal and state coordinators, and the presentation of awards to distinguished Nigerians.
