Abuja: The Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Diket Plang, has commended the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for its strides in innovation, infrastructure development, and staff welfare.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Plang expressed his satisfaction during the inauguration of new facilities at the FRSC headquarters in Abuja. The newly inaugurated facilities include an ICT hall, a fourth-floor lobby, a data collection centre, a reception, and call centres.
Plang, alongside FRSC Corps Marshal Malam Shehu Mohammed and the Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Dr Muheeba Dankaba, highlighted the rapid development and achievements of the Corps. He noted that the ICT training centre, which was once just a proposal, is now a reality, describing the ICT hall as 'unprecedented' in both quality and execution.
Plang also emphasized the operational efficiency of FRSC Radio 107.1 FM and praised the professionalism of staff who have transitioned from safety officers to broadcasters. Addressing the 10th Senate, he commended the FRSC leadership and staff for their commitment and service, underlining the crucial role of land transportation in Nigeria's economy.
The Senator described the Corps' digital transformation as timely and pledged continued legislative and financial support from the Senate to help the FRSC fulfil its mandates effectively. He also stressed the importance of investing in staff development and training, beyond just paying salaries.
Plang applauded President Bola Tinubu's approval of the new minimum wage but emphasized the need for leaders to create accessible work environments. He advocated for the recognition of outstanding staff through commendation letters and awards, urging the FRSC leadership to continue acknowledging hardworking staff and sector commanders.
Earlier, FRSC Corps Marshal Malam Shehu Mohammed reiterated the Corps' commitment to supporting President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda. He outlined completed and ongoing projects, including the completion of the Kaduna Zonal Command and ongoing projects in Benue, Osogbo, and Yobe sectors, assuring that these would be commissioned upon completion. Mohammed expressed gratitude for stakeholder support and pledged the FRSC's continued focus on delivering excellent service.
