Daura: The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari have been laid to rest at his residence in Daura, attended by his immediate family members, President Bola Tinubu, governors, ministers, and thousands of mourners. The burial ceremony witnessed a significant turnout, reflecting the impact Buhari had on the nation.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the event was graced by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, President of Guinea Bissau Umaro Sissoco Embal³, and the Prime Minister of Niger Republic, Ali Lamine Zeine. Other attendees included service chiefs, industry leaders, former governors, a representative of the President of Chad Republic, Islamic clerics, and other high-profile personalities from within and outside Nigeria.
A joint military team honored the late president with a 21-gun salute before he was interred at his private residence. As part of the funeral proceedings, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa read Buhari's citation, emphasizing the profound loss felt by the nation and his family. Musa highlighted Buhari's legacy as a soldier who demonstrated professionalism, discipline, honesty, integrity, and a commitment to selfless service.
The News Agency of Nigeria further reported that upon arrival in Daura, Buhari's body was received by a large crowd, chanting praises and seeking divine mercy for the former leader. Family members were given a moment to view his body and offer prayers for his soul's repose.
Buhari's leadership journey included serving as a Military Head of State from 1984 to 1985, later returning to power through democratic elections in 2015 and securing re-election in 2019. His tenure was marked by initiatives against corruption, infrastructural reforms, and varying outcomes in security and economic domains.
