Plateau Government Allocates N2 Billion for Agricultural Project Implementation

Jos: The Plateau Government has allocated N2 billion as counterpart funding for the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) to enhance agro-business and rural infrastructure in the state. Gov. Caleb Mutfwang made this announcement during the inauguration of three Agro-Logistic Centres in Jos.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the governor emphasized the financial efforts made to gather the funds amidst scarce resources, highlighting the project's significance for the state's residents. The agro-logistic centres will be situated in Mangu, Shendam, and Bassa Local Government Areas. Mutfwang noted that the project, which began in 2021, had not progressed until his administration restarted it in 2023.

The governor stated that new laws and agencies have been established to ensure the project's smooth execution. He urged local government chairmen and traditional rulers to oversee the project and ensure contractors deliver high-quality work. Mutfwang stressed accountability, vowing not to tolerate any contractor cutting corners and emphasizing the importance of durable road construction to support rural resources.

Furthermore, the governor assured Plateau residents of his dedication to serving with diligence and accountability, aiming to fulfill their aspirations regardless of political or religious affiliations.

In his remarks, Mr. Aminu Mohammad, the National Coordinator of RAAMP, praised the Plateau Government for its commitment to the project's implementation, noting that it is being conducted in 19 states with World Bank and Agence Fran§aise De D©veloppement support. He mentioned that Plateau leads in project implementation among the states and highlighted the potential of the agro centres to boost service delivery to farmers and processors.

Mr. Daniel Temsen, RAAMP Coordinator in Plateau, reported the construction of 331 kilometers of roads and 45 drainages in rural communities, urging contractors to adhere to project specifications.
