Ayebode: Gov. Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti has installed the new Owa of Ayebode-Ekiti, Oba Olusola Omolayo.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Oyebanji, who officiated the installation of the new Oba, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the traditional ruler and the state government to enhance security and grassroots development.
The governor highlighted his administration's commitment to improving the lives of local residents by ensuring their safety and ability to pursue their livelihoods without hindrance. He urged the new traditional ruler to prioritize unity and cooperation within the town, encouraging him to engage with other contenders for the royal seat in a spirit of harmony.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Monisade Afuye, Oyebanji stressed the significance of empowering citizens to be economically productive, which he sees as a vital strategy for alleviating poverty among rural communities. The governor called on the residents to support the new Oba to foster peace, unity, and development during his reign.
In his remarks, Oyebanji expressed his aspiration for a prosperous tenure for Oba Omolayo and urged him to rally his people in support of government policies and programs designed to stimulate the local economy. He assured that his administration would maintain its commitment to inclusive governance to ensure no group is excluded from the state's political processes.
In his acceptance speech, Oba Omolayo vowed to collaborate with Gov. Oyebanji to accelerate the town's development and solidify its status as a center of unity. He committed to rekindling the hopes and aspirations of his people by promoting the community's culture, customs, and traditions. His initial focus will be on uniting the community by gaining the support of local elites and other residents to ensure an inclusive leadership approach.
NAN reports that the Owa throne became vacant following the passing of Oba Augustine Famoroti from the Famoroti Ruling House on September 24, 2022. The newly installed traditional ruler, Oba Omolayo, hails from the Aketepe royal dynasty of Ayebode-Ekiti.
