A cooperation agreement was inked Tunis between Tunisia's National Sanitation Office (French: ONAS) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) for the implementation of technical assistance operations, ONAS said on Thursday. This agreement, which takes the form of a grant of $US 1.2 million, will be used to fund a "Feasibility study for an investment programme in coastal areas and capacity building for ONAS in Tunisia". This programme includes the rehabilitation of eight wastewater treatment plants and four wastewater treatment networks. Three sea outfalls will also be created, and ONAS' capacities will be strengthened. This agreement was inekd at the ONAS headquarters by ONAS CEO Abdelmajid Bettaieb and EIB Head of Regional Representation to Tunisia Jean Luc Revéreault. ONAS also signed another agreement with the German KfW Development Bank in the form of a grant worth pound 1.9 million for technical assistance in operating wastewater treatment plants equipped with gas recovery systems.
