Abuja: Samuel Olatunji, President of the Nigeria Armwrestling Federation, has announced that the organization is striving to have arm wrestling included in the National Sports Festival (NSF), which is set to be held in Enugu in 2026. Olatunji revealed this initiative during the African Armwrestling Championship in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Olatunji expressed pride in the performance of Nigerian athletes at the championship, noting it as an improvement over past years. He highlighted that notable progress has been made in the sport and mentioned that discussions with the National Sports Commission (NSC) to include arm wrestling in the upcoming festival have already started.
Olatunji also emphasized efforts to reintegrate arm wrestling into the Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA). He recognized NUGA as an important platform for discovering new talents in the sport. The News Agency of Nigeria further reported that the two-day championship, which concludes today in Abuja, has attracted participation from over 20 countries.
