Nwifuru Empowers Ebonyi Farmers with Farm Inputs for 2025 Food Production

Ebonyi: Gov. Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi has released farm inputs to farmers across the 13 Local Government Areas of Ebonyi for increased food production in 2025. The State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Chief Uchenna Igwe, made the disclosure at Ezzangbo, Ohaukwu Local Government Area during the distribution of the inputs which include fertilisers, rice seedlings and herbicides.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Igwe stated that Nwifuru was keen on ensuring that genuine farmers access the inputs to secure a substantial harvest in the state. The governor's focus on increased food production forms a central part of his administration's agenda, and efforts are underway to fulfill this objective. Igwe emphasized that the initiative is not only about distribution but also about equipping genuine farmers with essential inputs and knowledge. He hinted at a future where state appointments may require individuals to demonstrate their farming engagements.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mrs Nkechinyere Iyioku, stressed the significance of establishing community-based farms and encouraged local councils to set an example. She called for the inauguration of functional farms in local government areas, urging individuals to embrace farming to boost food production in the state. She clarified that the distributed items are strictly for farming purposes and should not be sold or hoarded.

Mrs Iyioku also mentioned the governor's recent decision to site a legacy project in Ohaukwu LGA, which is expected to generate over 500 jobs for local residents. Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman of Ohaukwu LGA, Chief Ikechukwu Odono, expressed gratitude to the governor for focusing on the welfare of rural farmers and assured that the inputs would reach genuine farmers. He urged beneficiaries to utilize the inputs wisely to enhance food production within the council and beyond.

A resource person at the event, Mr John Nweze, offered guidance to the farmers on good agronomic practices to support their farming activities. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the distribution was also carried out at Ishielu LGA among other councils of the state.
