NSF: Team FCT Soars in Badminton, Chairman Pledges Development of Sport

Ogun: The Chairman of FCT Badminton Association, Mohammed Bappa, has pledged to fast-track the growth of the sport in FCT through robust grassroots development tournaments. He made the pledge during the medals presentation at the ongoing 2024 National Sports Festival (NSF) in Ogun, where FCT secured medals in badminton and para badminton. According to News Agency of Nigeria, Bappa commended the FCT badminton players for their resilience, highlighting their achievements of winning gold in the para event and bronze in mixed doubles. He expressed optimism about securing more medals in different categories as the festival progresses. Bappa emphasized that the FCT has discovered new talents that will be nurtured to stardom in the future. He mentioned the organization of several programs aimed at engaging young boys and girls in badminton, taking them off the streets and providing them with opportunities to develop their skills. The chairman also revealed that plans have been concluded to initiate the Area Counc ils Badminton Championship. This initiative aims to build on the successes achieved at the NSF and to discover more budding talents. Preparations for the championship had already begun before the NSF, and efforts will be finalized once the festival concludes. Furthermore, Bappa shared that the association has reached out to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, seeking support for sports development in the region, particularly for badminton. He remained optimistic about receiving a favorable response from the minister.
