NSA, CDS Highlight Federal Government’s Achievements in Tackling Insecurity

Kaduna: The National Security Adviser to the President, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, have outlined the significant achievements made by the Federal Government in addressing insecurity under President Bola Tinubu's administration. They shared these insights during a plenary session at the two-day Interactive Session on Government-citizens' Engagement held on Tuesday in Kaduna.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ribadu detailed Nigeria's long-standing battle with insecurity, citing challenges such as the Niger Delta agitation, Boko Haram insurgency, banditry, IPOB, and other separatist movements. He provided a comprehensive overview of the country's security landscape prior to May 29, 2023, highlighting the control bandits had over parts of the North-Central region and other areas, resulting in numerous civilian casualties and widespread destruction of communities.

Ribadu emphasized that significant progress had been made in addressing these issues, with the Niger Delta situation now stabilized and crude oil production increased to over 1.9 million barrels per day. He stated that efforts to unify the country have been successful, underlining President Tinubu's directive for security agencies to collaborate closely with each other and with state governors. Ribadu reported that Kaduna is now largely free from banditry, and operations are ongoing in Kwara and other states to ensure continued safety.

He also mentioned the Armed Forces' successful neutralization of many bandits and criminal elements, particularly those who previously controlled territories in Kaduna. However, Ribadu cautioned that while significant achievements have been made, challenges remain, and ongoing efforts are required to ensure lasting peace.

Gen. Musa echoed Ribadu's sentiments, reaffirming the armed forces' commitment to securing the Northern region and the country as a whole. He emphasized the importance of collaboration, professionalism, and community engagement in their operations. Musa also highlighted the role of public awareness and youth engagement in preventing participation in banditry or terrorism, and he called on border communities to assist in reporting criminal activities.
