Abuja: The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has called on relevant stakeholders to strengthen the domestic economy across the country. Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, Managing Director of NPA, made the call at the NPA Special Day at the 20th Abuja International Trade Fair (AITF) in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the theme of the trade fair is 'Sustainability: Consumption, Incentives and Taxation.' The fair started on September 25th and will run until October 6th. Dantsoho assured the stakeholders that the NPA's doors were open for partnership, even beyond the trade fair.
He invited stakeholders to interact with the NPA's business development team at the trade fair and to visit their online platform for further engagement. The managing director emphasized NPA's commitment to enhancing the domestic economy by promoting a balance of trade.
The NPA has established Export Process Terminals (EPTs) to streamline the process of exporting Nigerian goods. Dantsoho explained that the EPTs serve as a one-stop-shop for cargo consolidation and shipment, reducing bureaucratic hurdles and increasing competitiveness in the international market.
Dantsoho highlighted the strategic importance of Abuja, with its central location and rich agro-allied potential, in supporting the Federal Government's efforts to grow non-oil revenue. He stressed that Abuja's positioning strengthens the connectivity between ports and hinterlands, facilitating trade and boosting Nigeria's export volume and value.
He also encouraged investors and stakeholders to explore the simplified export processes and opportunities available through the NPA. Mr. Agabaidu Jideani, Director-General of the Abuja Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), acknowledged NPA's strategic role in Nigeria's trade facilitation, ensuring efficient inflow and outflow of goods.
Jideani remarked on the direct impact of port efficiency on the competitiveness of Nigerian businesses domestically and internationally. He also recognized NPA's efforts in promoting Inland Dry Ports (IDPs) to bring port services closer to inland communities.
