Bida: The National Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has announced that the rehabilitation of the long-dormant Bida water works, inactive for over two decades, is now 90 percent complete. Dr. Itilatyaa Daniel, the Director of Engineering and Technical Services at the commission, shared this update during a confirmatory test of five MVA transformers acquired by N-HYPPADEC at the site in Bida. According to News Agency of Nigeria, the revitalization efforts at the Bida Mana Water Works have gained significant traction with the delivery of transformers to expedite power supply to the newly upgraded water treatment facility. This initiative is expected to address the persistent water scarcity issues affecting Bida and its surrounding areas. The Head of Electrical Division at N-HYPPADEC, Ibrahim Adamu-Haruna, confirmed that the transformers designated for the operation of the treatment pumps, which were previously acquired by the Niger Government, have been successfully test-run and dee med satisfactory. He further explained that the electrical line has been upgraded from 11 KVA to 33 KVA, ensuring sufficient power to operate the pumps efficiently. The upgraded plant is designed to handle a capacity of 5,000 cubic metres per hour, which is expected to alleviate the water scarcity challenges faced by an estimated two million residents in the region. Shafi'yi Yabagi, the contractor overseeing the project, mentioned that the scope of work includes the expansion of the reticulation system, the addition of booster stations, and improvements to the treatment plant and reservoir, among other enhancements.
