Ikorodu: Ikorodu Local Government, Lagos State, has enrolled no fewer than 300 elderlies on a health insurance scheme. The Chairman, Mr. Adedayo Ladega, announced during a medical outreach in Ikorodu that this initiative was in fulfilment of a promise made during his election campaign.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the outreach catered to elderly residents aged between 60 and 85, offering health screenings and distributing cash gifts to 100 individuals at the council secretariat. The programme, titled 'Mudun Mudun, Itoju Agba (Care for the elderly) and Ladega Cash support', included screenings for diabetes and high blood pressure. Additionally, insurance cards from the Lagos State Health Management Agency (Ilera Eko) were provided to all beneficiaries.
Ladega reiterated his commitment to prioritizing the health and welfare of his constituents, stating that the health care, food pack, and cash offerings serve as palliatives to alleviate the hardships faced by residents, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President. He also appealed to the youth to avoid vices and remain optimistic about the administration's promise of prosperity for all citizens.
Highlighting security measures, Ladega mentioned that he had convened a meeting with security agencies and local vigilantes to boost efforts since assuming office. He promised prosperity for Ikorodu residents and outlined plans for future beneficial programmes.
Alhaji Akeem Odubeko, a beneficiary of the health insurance, expressed gratitude to the chairman and encouraged others to utilize the scheme for their health benefits, emphasizing that 'health is wealth.' Mrs. Saidat Bakare, who received cash and a food pack, praised the chairman and urged the reactivation of the weekly environmental sanitation exercise to ensure a cleaner Ikorodu.
