Ikorodu: The Agbaakin of Ikorodu, Chief Ayodele Elesho, has praised the reign of Oba Kabir Shotobi, the traditional ruler of Ikorodu, highlighting the peace and progress achieved during his leadership. Elesho, who also serves as the chairman of the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee for the 10th anniversary of Oba Shotobi's coronation, shared his insights during a news conference at the Ayangburen palace.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Elesho pointed out several initiatives introduced by Oba Shotobi, such as the creation of the Ikorodu Peace Initiative Ltd (IDPL), which Elesho chairs. The initiative, in collaboration with other security agencies, has significantly improved local conditions. Elesho emphasized the impact of IDPL's interventions in education, environment, and road rehabilitation.
Elesho further explained that these efforts have contributed to Ikorodu's growth, making it the third largest city in South-West Nigeria and the 12th largest in the country. He also mentioned a significant project under Oba Shotobi's rule, the construction of a renal centre, which is nearing completion. This centre aims to support the existing medical facilities and engage the Lagos State Government in converting the local General Hospital into a teaching hospital.
The News Agency of Nigeria also reported that the week-long celebration, set from August 2 to August 10, will include the honoring of Nigeria's First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, with the title of 'Yeye Oba of Ikorodu'. The event is expected to draw prominent figures from across the region.
