Gabes hosts workshop on boosting activities of Gabes Commercial Port

Gabes: A workshop on ways to boost port traffic at the Port of Gabes was held, on Wednesday, as part of a study to draw up Tunisia's 2040 master and management plan for commercial ports. Participants in the workshop, held at the initiative of the Directorate of Port of Gabes, stressed the need to improve the port infrastructure by building new quays with berthing, mooring facilities and a passenger terminal. This will help create additional activities contributing to the improving the port's economic profitability, including container and vehicle transport activities and the organisation of cruises. Once completed, these works will place the commercial port of Gabes among the most important commercial ports in Tunisia, given its strategic location, connection to the rail network, proximity to the motorway and nautical data with a draught of less than 13.5 metres, the participants said. They underlined the port's promising prospects, especially with the completion of the Tunisia Economic Development Corridor Project, which will link the governorate of Gabes to southern Algeria.
