FRSC Corps Marshal Mourns Tragic Road Crash Victims Including Rescue Operative

Abuja: The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of 17 individuals in a road accident, which included one of the Corps' emergency rescue operatives.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mohammed conveyed his condolences through a statement released by the Corps Public Education Officer, Mr. Olusegun Ogungbemide. The deceased personnel was actively deployed to conduct rescue operations at the crash scene. Mohammed extended heartfelt sympathies to the families affected by the tragedy and urged motorists to prioritize vehicle maintenance and adhere to speed limits to prevent future occurrences.

Mohammed recounted that the fatal accident occurred due to excessive speed and brake failure at 1600hrs in the Gbara area of Ogun State. The crash involved seven vehicles, including a white DAF truck with registration number T14007LA, a Toyota Hiace Bus registered as AGL752YC, a Honda saloon car with registration number HET680, and a Nissan Pick-up Van with registration number STF10204, among others. Two Bajaj motorcycles and another white DAF truck without registration were also part of the accident.

The multiple vehicle collision affected 18 victims, comprising 12 male adults, 5 female adults, and 1 female child. Out of these, 17 individuals lost their lives, including 11 male adults, 5 female adults, and 1 female child. Only one victim survived with injuries.

The FRSC Corps Marshal reiterated the organization's dedication to ensuring road safety for all users. He highlighted the concerning frequency of speed-related crashes and urged motorists to act responsibly and adhere to speed limits. Mohammed stressed the severe impact of speeding and emphasized that the FRSC is committed to preventing further loss of lives on Nigerian roads.

As the Corps mourns the loss of its operative and 16 other individuals, Mohammed assured that the driver responsible for the accident would be prosecuted. The Corps is actively working to ensure that drivers involved in fatal crashes face legal consequences. FRSC remains steadfast in promoting road safety awareness and enforcing traffic laws, appealing to all stakeholders, including motorists and pedestrians, to join the campaign against speed limit violations.
