Abuja: Four more senators from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Their letters of defection were presented individually during the plenary session, as read by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the senators who made the switch are Francis Fadahunsi and Olubiyi Fadeyi from Osun, and Akon Samson and Aniekan Bassey from Akwa-Ibom. This move was witnessed by notable figures including the National Secretary of the APC, Sen. Ajibola Basiru, Chris Ngige, and some APC members from the House of Representatives, who were granted access to the chamber for the occasion.
The defection of these four senators has shifted the balance of power in the Senate, increasing the number of APC senators to 70, while the Peoples Democratic Party now holds 28 seats.
