Abuja: The Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has thrown his weight behind Mr. Christopher Maikalangu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the forthcoming FCT Area Council elections. Maikalangu is seeking re-election as Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) in the area councils polls scheduled for February 2026. Wike campaigned for Maikalangu during the inauguration of a construction project for a 7-kilometre access road with four-span bridges to link Tunga Madaki with eight other settlements in AMAC.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Maikalangu recently defected to the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The minister urged residents of Tunga Madaki and neighbouring communities to reciprocate the Federal Government's gesture by voting for the AMAC chairman. Wike described Maikalangu as a consistent advocate for the Tunga Madaki Community, highlighting his efforts in making the road projects a reality. Wike recounted Maikalangu's persistent reminders about the promise made during the land compensation process for the second airport runway, which culminated in the present inauguration.
Wike expressed his support by stating, "I am handing him over to you; support him in the February 2026 elections, so that by June, when the road is commissioned, we will all dance together in celebration. One good turn deserves another; when you do for me, I do for you; when you fall for me, I fall for you; when you listen to me, I listen to you." He urged the residents to remember past council chairmen and question their contributions, particularly regarding the roads leading to the airport.
The minister emphasized the importance of reflecting on past leadership and the lack of attention from previous administrations before the President Bola Tinubu-led government. He encouraged the crowd to remember those who supported them during challenging times and to stand with the party that brought development to their community.
