Abuja: The Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Husseini Yusuf, has discharged four inmates on bail at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kuje. This action is part of a jail delivery exercise aimed at promoting quick dispensation of justice and reducing congestion in custodial centers.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the spokesman for the Nigeria Correctional Service, FCT Command, Mr. Samson Duza, announced the Chief Judge's visit and actions on Friday. The Chief Judge emphasized that the visit aligns with the judiciary's commitment to justice and humane treatment of individuals in custody. During the exercise, four inmates were discharged on bail as part of ongoing efforts to ensure that individuals who do not belong in custodial facilities are released.
Reacting to the Chief Judge's visit, the Controller of Corrections for the FCT Command, Mr. Olatubosun Ajibogun, expressed appreciation for the judiciary's continued commitment to justice delivery and custodial decongestion. Ajibogun noted that this marks the third time the Chief Judge has visited a custodial center in the FCT over the last six months, describing it as a commendable gesture.
Ajibogun also highlighted the involvement of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) during this exercise, which paid the bail conditions for the four inmates granted bail. This act underscores the growing collaboration between the judiciary, correctional services, and civil society in addressing the challenges of overcrowding and improving inmates' welfare. He reaffirmed the Nigeria Correctional Service's readiness to maintain synergy with the judiciary to enhance justice delivery and humane custody.
