Abuja: The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced several programmes for the 2025 ember months campaign, aimed at ensuring the highway is safe and secure for road users. The announcement was made by the Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, during the 12th FRSC Valedictory Lecture Series in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the lecture series was held in honour of Deputy Corps Marshal (DCM), in charge of Training, Chidiebere Nkwonta, who retired after reaching the age of 60. Mohammed stated that the corps is committed to sustaining ongoing reforms to align with global road safety best practices across all 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). He emphasized the use of various technologies as tools to enhance operations across the country.
The Corps Marshal assured that the FRSC will leave no stone unturned in curbing the excesses of motorists and ensuring effective traffic management before, during, and after the ember months special operations. He also praised the contributions of the retired DCM Nkwonta to the growth of the FRSC and urged current officers to emulate his outstanding performance. The corps plans to build on the legacy of the retired senior officer.
In his lecture titled 'How to Navigate the Vagaries of the Nigerian Public Service: My Experience, A Good Teacher', Nkwonta encouraged younger officers to diligently carry out any assignment entrusted to them. He highlighted the importance of loyalty and commitment to the service, crediting retired senior officers for their mentorship, which equipped him during his 35 years of service. The retired DCM pledged to remain available whenever called upon.
