DisCos Record 20.55% Increase in Meter Installations in Q2 2025

Abuja: The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has announced that Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) across Nigeria installed a total of 225,631 meters during the second quarter of 2025. According to News Agency of Nigeria, this figure marks a significant increase of 20.55 percent compared to the 187,161 meters installed in the first quarter of 2025. The commission's second quarter report, which was published on its website, provides a detailed breakdown of the meters installed under various frameworks. During this period, 147,823 meters, constituting 65.52 percent, were installed under the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) framework. Additionally, 5,315 meters were installed through the Meter Acquisition Fund (MAF), and 12,259 meters were set up under the Vendor Financed framework. Also, 234 meters were installed under the DisCo Financed framework. As of the end of June 2025, only 6,422,933 out of the total 11,821,194 active registered customers in the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) had been metered, resulting in a metering rate of 54.33 percent. The report also highlighted that DisCos managed to resolve 1,129 complaints out of the 2,474 filed at the NERC-Customer Complaints Unit (CCU), which corresponds to a resolution rate of 45.63 percent. However, the total number of complaints received across all DisCo-CCUs stood at 227,267, indicating a 10.67 percent decrease compared to the 254,404 complaints recorded in the first quarter of 2025.
