Kaduna: A Shari'a Court in Rigasa, Kaduna ordered the remand of a female spectator whose phone rang during court proceedings.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the incident occurred on Tuesday when the woman's phone rang, interrupting the session. Despite being asked to submit her phone to a court official, she resisted. The presiding Judge, Malam Muhammad Adamu, stated that she would be charged with obstructing court proceedings.
The woman, whose name was not disclosed, explained that it was her first time in court and she merely wanted to observe the proceedings. Despite her pleas and explanation, she was remanded, and her phone was confiscated.
A sign instructing attendees to switch off their phones was visibly posted both inside and outside the court premises. Additionally, a court clerk had reminded everyone to ensure their phones were switched off or set to silent mode before the proceedings commenced.
