Abuja: The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, announced that the implementation of a cashless operation system is set to eliminate cash handling delays at Nigeria's airports. This announcement was made during the official inauguration of 'Operation Go Cashless' at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja. Mrs. Kuku, represented by Ms. Adebola Agunbiade, Director of the Commercial and Business Development Directorate at FAAN, highlighted the system's role in enhancing the passenger experience and underscoring FAAN's commitment to transparency and efficiency.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the cashless system represents a significant upgrade, aiming to provide faster, more secure transactions, thereby resolving the delays associated with cash handling. This system is part of FAAN's strategy to offer modern, efficient, and world-class service. Following its successful introduction in Lagos, 'Operation Go Cashless' is now fully deployed in Abuja, marking a significant step in FAAN's nationwide strategy to transition to cashless operations.
Mrs. Kuku explained that the cashless system would offer a comprehensive, contactless payment solution across all airports in Nigeria. The new FAAN contactless card will enable instant payments with a simple tap, featuring a unified wallet for easy management across multiple cards, making it ideal for families and corporate users. The card's nationwide validity and real-time SMS notifications for every transaction ensure both convenience and security for all users, including international travelers.
In the event of a lost or stolen card, users can instantly block it through a secure online dashboard, ensuring funds remain protected. To facilitate a smooth transition, FAAN has deployed trained ambassadors and established comprehensive customer support through a dedicated hotline, email, and physical help desks. Mrs. Kuku emphasized that this initiative is pivotal to enhancing accountability and sustainable revenue growth, aligning with global standards and strengthening Nigeria's position in international business.
She praised the support of President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Aviation, Mr. Festus Keyamo, for their commitment to advancing this technology-driven initiative. Mr. Rindap Domtur, the NAIA Airport Manager, expressed optimism that the cashless system would effectively address the challenges previously encountered during cash handling processes at the airport's access gate.
