Katsina: The body of former President Muhammadu Buhari has departed the Katsina Airport in a motorcade to Daura, his hometown, for interment.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the body is being accompanied to Daura by a delegation that includes President Bola Tinubu, Service Chiefs, serving and former governors, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, industry leaders, and ministers. The motorcade, with a hearse conveying the body of Buhari, left the Katsina Airport for Daura, a journey of approximately 88.6 kilometers, at around 3:15 p.m.
NAN Correspondent observed that as the body was moving out of Katsina, residents of the city gathered in large numbers to pay their final respects to the former President. Buhari, who was considered by analysts as one of the most respected politicians in Nigeria's recent political history, passed away in a clinic in London on Sunday at the age of 82.
Earlier, NAN reported that the aircraft carrying Buhari's body from London, accompanied by Vice-President Kashim Shettima and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, landed at Umaru Musa Yar'adua Airport, Katsina, at 1:50 p.m. Upon arrival, the body was received by President Bola Tinubu, who had arrived at the Katsina Airport earlier.
NAN further reports that a brief military ceremony was held at the airport before the bearer party transferred the body of the former president into the waiting hearse.
