Yenagoa: The Federal University of Agriculture Support Group has announced the successful raising of N232 million to support the establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture in Bassambiri, Bayelsa. The announcement was made during a fundraiser event in Yenagoa, where the Coordinator, Dr. Ala-Peters David, emphasized the importance of ensuring the university's timely commencement.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the initiative aligns with a presidential directive mandating that all newly established universities begin operations by September. Dr. David highlighted that although the university is a federal institution, the primary beneficiaries would be the residents of Bayelsa, noting the fundamental role education plays in societal development. He pointed out that this is the first higher education institution in Bassambiri, Opu-Nembe, and emphasized the need for local support in its establishment.
Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa, represented by Education Commissioner Dr. Gentle Emelah, echoed this sentiment by affirming the state government's commitment to provide essential facilities for the university. The state administration prioritizes education and the overall welfare of Bayelsa's residents.
Bob Manuel, CEO of Bontrac Tractors Limited, also commented on the sidelines of the event, recognizing the university's establishment as a significant and timely initiative. He underscored the potential of agriculture in addressing employment challenges in the Niger Delta and across Nigeria.
