Abuja: The new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, assumed office at the commission's headquarters in Abuja on Thursday. Amupitan arrived at approximately 2:40 p.m. with the Acting Chairman, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, national commissioners, and the secretary to the commission, following his swearing-in at the presidential villa.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Amupitan is expected to hold his first meeting with INEC directors and management staff members after completing the preliminary protocols of assuming office. Amupitan, hailing from Kogi, is a Professor of Law at the University of Jos, where he commenced his academic career in 1989.
