In his address, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres highlighted the need for countries to overcome differences, adhere to international law, and pursue the Sustainable Development Goals.
Guterres remarked that the UN Charter requires countries to look beyond their national interests, fostering trust, faith, and collaboration. The anniversary is themed 'Better Together: 80 years and more for peace, development, and human rights,' as reported by the official UN website.
A series of high-level meetings with world leaders are scheduled in New York to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the UN General Assembly. The programme includes debates, summits on sustainable development, climate, artificial intelligence, and meetings marking the 80th anniversary of the UN and the 30th Anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women.
