Abuja: The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, has commended members of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) 17th Regular and Short Service 9 Courses for their contributions to national development. He gave the commendation during the Golden Jubilee Anniversary Dinner of the Alumni of the courses in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Gen. Musa highlighted that the 50 years anniversary was not just a commemoration of years gone by, but a celebration of the journey, sacrifices, and contributions of the officers. He noted that the anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on the impact made by the two courses on the Nigerian Armed Forces and the nation.
He remarked, '50 years ago, young men with a common vision and unwavering commitment to duty took an oath to serve their nation with courage, discipline, and professionalism.' He emphasized the indelible mark left by members of the 17th regular course and 9-Shot Service Combatant Course on Nigeria's security architecture.
Gen. Musa also recognized that several members of these courses rose to high military ranks and ventured into public service, politics, and business, making significant contributions to national development. He stated that these achievements reflect the discipline and excellence instilled by the Nigerian Defence Academy.
The CDS paid tribute to retired officers who were involved in military engagements, peacekeeping missions, and national security operations, honoring those who paid the ultimate price. He acknowledged their roles in safeguarding Nigeria's territorial integrity and maintaining peace within and beyond national borders.
Highlighting the ongoing evolution of the Nigerian Armed Forces to address contemporary security challenges, Gen. Musa expressed the importance of the wisdom and experiences of veterans in shaping future strategies. He encouraged them to continue mentoring and contributing to national security discourse.
Gen. Musa reiterated the military's commitment to fulfilling President Bola Tinubu's mandate to restore peace and tranquillity in Nigeria. The Chairman of the North-East Development Commission (NEDC), Retired Maj.-Gen. Paul Tarfa, and the President of the Course, Retired Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Atofarati, also praised the contributions of the course members to the military and national development.
Tarfa congratulated the honorees for their military careers, while Atofarati highlighted that the course produced notable military leaders and public figures. He mentioned that the association was formed to support the welfare of the members, appreciating the opportunity to celebrate the golden jubilee.
