DAR-ES-SALAAM-- World Bank Group Senior Vice-President and General Counsel Dr Sandie Okoro is visiting Tanzania from Wednesday until June 6 to 14, a Bank statement says.
During the visit, Dr Okoro will meet Chief Justice Prof Ibrahim Hamis Juma as well as Minister of Finance and Planning Dr Philip Mpango. She will also meet other senior government officials to discuss World Bank support to the government in general and the country Justice sectors in particular.
The statement added that Dr Okoro will participate in a roundtable with various justice sector and civil society representatives and other stakeholders to deliberate on issues relating to gender-based violence (GBV) in the country and to explore innovative legal approaches and gender-specific strategies to fighting it.
in addition to visiting a World Bank-financed project, Dr Okoro will participate as guest of honour at the Girls in Action Initiative Conference in Dar-es-Salaam on June 9, 2018, the statement said.
The conference will bring together Tanzanian students in higher learning institutions under the theme, 'Young Women and Their Place in the Modern Economy'.
Later, she is expected to travel to Arusha, where she will co-host with Chief Justice Juma a high-level conference on Gender and the Judiciary in Sub-Saharan Africa from June 10 to 14, 2018.
The conference, which will be attended by Chief Justices from across Africa, will bring together judges, magistrates and concerned stakeholders to discuss gender issues within the judiciary; women's access to justice and GBV generally.
