The Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) has awarded the winners of the 1st TCAA essay writing competition as part of activities to mark 75 years of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), at an award event held on 6 December 2019 at TCAA HQ, Banana- Ukonga, Dar es Salaam.
A 11 years old, Albert Dida from Libermann Pre and Primary School, emerged an overall winner, having scored a total of 98 average, going home with star prize, the brand-new laptop.
The second and third position went to Yvonne Lyaruu (12) from Alpha High and Alpha Tito Mbise of Fray Luis Amigo Primary School (12) respectively who scored 94 and 92 percentage. The two were also awarded brand-new laptops.
Moureen Silayo (12) from Havard EA Primary School came 4th with a score of 74 percent while Huzeifa Hassan Amirali (12) from Al-Madrasa Tus Saifiya Tul Burhaniya Primary School took the 5th position with 70 average score.
Air Tanzania awarded, the top five contestants with complementary Dar es Salaam- Kilimanjaro return tickets to recognize their hard work and achievement.
TCAA organized the competition for primary and secondary students aged between 10 to 13 years on the topic The roles of National Carrier- Air Tanzania in the National Development, to enhance their knowledge and interest on civil aviation careers, subsequently increase the number of Tanzania aviation experts; pilots and aircraft engineers in particular.
The competition which was opened on 5th 22 November, 2019, collected a total of 102 entries from 28 schools of Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Mbeya, and Shinyanga regions. Out of which 79 entries qualified for evaluation.
