DAR-ES-SALAAM, Tanzanian Vice-President Mama Samia Suluhu is expected to attend the farewell mass Monday for the 35 people, including 32 schoolchildren, who were killed in an accident in Arusha, about 620 kilometres northwest of here, over the weekend.
The joint mass will be jointly held at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha City, the Regional Commissioner, Mrisho Gambo. said Sunday.
Arusha District Commissioner Fabian Daqarro said the mass which was initially supposed to be held on Sunday, was rescheduled for Monday at the same stadium venue. The government is funding the mass and burial costs for all the victims, including transportation.
The Mayor for Arusha City, Kalist Lazaro said preparation for the communal mass for the departed elementary and high school students were still taking place and that early prayer sessions involving parents and relatives were taking place at the school premises in the Kwa-Mrombo area.
For the communal stadium mass, all religious denominations and sects are to be involved in the farewell occasion and many government officials will also be in attendance.
A school bus nose-dived into the River Malera Ravine at Rhotia Section of Karatu District on Saturday, claiming 33 lives with the victims being schoolchildren their teachers and the vehicle driver.
