Tinubu Praises Nigerian Workers, Pledges Economic Support

Abuja: President Bola Tinubu on Thursday expressed gratitude to Nigerian workers for their patriotism and perseverance, while committing to alleviate economic hardships. Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammed Dingyadi, conveyed these sentiments during the 2025 International Workers' Day celebration in Abuja. He hailed the workforce as the "backbone of our society," acknowledging their vital role in driving the economy and upholding national values.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Tinubu emphasized the importance of organized labour in fostering dialogue and promoting workers' rights, ensuring their voices are prominently heard. The President highlighted the theme of this year's May Day celebration, "Reclaiming the Civic Space in the Midst of Economic Hardship," as a reminder of the need to create a safe and empowering environment for workers to contribute productively to national growth.

Tinubu assured the administration's commitment to creating a conducive climate for the common good, acknowledging the global nature of economic hardship. He recognized the specific challenges faced by Nigerians, including rising living costs, insecurity, unemployment, and pressure to provide for families. These issues, he stated, demand definite solutions which his administration is prepared to address.

The President reiterated a commitment to policies promoting job creation, poverty alleviation, and economic stability, while also supporting the most vulnerable. Addressing the theme of the day, Tinubu stressed the importance of reclaiming the civic space as a cornerstone of democracy, essential for holding leaders accountable and fostering innovation.

He emphasized the need for transparency, inclusivity, equity, and dialogue to protect workers' rights and amplify marginalized voices. Tinubu assured continuous strengthening of labour protections, job security, and fair treatment for all workers, in accordance with international standards.
