DODOMA, TANZANIA, Tanzanian President Dr John Magufuli has been unanimously re-elected chairman of the ruling party, the Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM), after winning all the 1,826 votes cast at the party's 9th General Assembly in the national capital, Dodoma, Monday.
Meanwhile, Dr Mohamed Shein, the President of Zanizibar, and Philip Mangula, an inclumbent party vice-chairman, have been elected by the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) as CCM Vice-Chairmen for the Isles and the Mainland respectively. They also obtained 1,826 votes each.
The elected top leadership will lead the ruling party untill 2022.
Earlier, opening the General Assembly, Dr Magufuli said that the party won in 42 wards out of 43 in by-elections for councilors as it had strong support from its members. Another reason that led the CCM to scoop the wards, leaving one to opposition Chadema, according Dr Magufuli, is the experience of the ruling party in the country's politics for 40 years.
We are implementing practically want we have promised, cited the CCM national chairman as he was mentioning reasons why the party won. The fourth reason is that CCM has unity and solidarity among members hence it was a strong factor why the oldest party continues winning in every election over other competitors, he added.
Meanwhile, the chairman called on party members who were vying for various posts to dissolve their camps and support the winners in a bid to make the party stronger. Losers shouldn't feel bad. They should try again.
