TANZANIA SET TO BEGIN REVIEWING ITS INDUSTRIAL POLICY

DAR-ES-SALAAM-- TheTtanzanian government is set to begin the process of reviewing its Sustainable Industrial Development Policy (SIDP) by the middle of next month, says an industrial expert at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Peter Nyang'ombe.

He says the life span of the current policy is from 1996 to 2020 and the Ministry is seeking to craft a new policy to facilitate the implementation of the country's industrial development agenda under the fifth phase, during which the government seeks to turn the country into an industrial economy by 2025.

By mid-September we will start reviewing the policy, he said here Wednesday. However, the review had already started internally at the ministry, but from next month the exercise would start involving stakeholders to give their views with a view to preparing a new policy to be implemented from 2021.

He said the Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF) has offered the ministry the terms of reference for the review process, adding: We are glad that the ESRF has prepared the terms of reference and the Ministry is in process to engage a consultant to lead the review exercise.
