DODOMA, TANZANIA-- The Tanzanian government has drawn up strategies to transform the agricultural and fishery sectors in the country, including reviving the ailing Tanzania Fishing Corporation (TAFICO), says Livestock nd Fisheries Development Minister Luhaga Mpina.
Speaking in the national capital, Dodoma, on Tuesday, he said the strategies would enable the government to collect revenues amounting to 100 billion shillings (about 43.8 million US dollars) compared with the current 30 billion shillings annually from the two sectors.
The revamped TAFICO will set up schemes to increase the species bred in the country's water bodies, he added.
The government managed to collect 46 billion shillings in the 2017/2018 fiscal year, thanks to Operations Sangara and Nzagamba, said the Minister during an event to launch the strategies.
The event also saw the Minister directing heads of both units of livestock and fishery development to form a task force to supervise the implementation of strategies which will be evaluated after every three months.
Mpina pointed out among the strategies for agricultural sector is enhancing the control of animal diseases, ensuring reliable pastures and water for cattle as well as setting up a special programme to increase the number of dairy cattle.
