Hundreds of people are stranded on both the South Africa-Lesotho border post after taxi operators from the Mountain Kingdom blockaded the border post with their taxis.
The Lesotho taxi operators are accusing South African police officials of having financial interests in the taxi industry. The operators say arrests and impounding of their taxis by officers of the South African Police Service (SAPS) are illegitimate.
The action monday followed a cross-border transport agreement between the ministers of transport of the two countries signed recently.
Some motorists have even opted to turn back and use alternative border posts. About 400 pedestrians cross from Lesotho into South Africa. Lesotho is a landlocked country completed surrounded by South Africa.
Motorists remain uncertain about when exactly they will be able to reach their destinations after the festive season break.
