Dar es Salaam - The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) will not host the Cecafa Kagame Cup 2016, which was planned to kick off on June 15.
The tournament whose champions are Azam FC was earlier to take place in Zanzibar, but the Mainland stepped in after the former claimed inability to host the annual event.
However, speaking in Dar es Salaam yesterday, the TFF information officer Alfred Lucas alluded to the fact that the decision was due to international calendar congestion.
"We will not be hosting the 2016 Kagame Cup because of congestion of the calendar. The TFF never committed to host Kagame Cup. Zanzibar did. It was a question of stepping in after Zanzibar claimed inability to host. Any CECAFA member can step in," He said.
"CAF Confederation Cup fixture demands on clubs is heavy, two games per month, home and away between June and August. Kagame Cup takes place mid July that's why we have to focus on Yanga," he added.
