TANZANIA SEES NEED FOR DIRECT AIR LINKS WITH CHINA TO ATTRACT MORE CHINESE VISITORS

DAR-ES-SALAAM, The Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) has underscored the need for direct flights between Tanzania and China to reduce the cost of air travel between the two countries in order to attract more visitors from the Asian ginat.

TTB Chairman Thomas Mihayo says that rising number of tourists from China are travelling overseas but that attracting more of them to visit Tanzania were will largely depend on reliable and affordable air links between the two countries.

It is now evident that there is a good number of tourists coming from China. Something must be done to revitalise trade links and strategic attractions of tourists from China, adds Judge Mihayo, whike stressing Tanzania's abundant tourist attractions.

Tourism can potentially be one of the country's leading economic drivers, which, if tapped fully, will contribute significantly to national economic growth and development, he said Monday after winding up a tour of Tanzania'sworld famous Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Manyara National Park by visiting Chinese journalists.

TTB Managing Director Devota Mdachi said the visit by the journalists was part of the board's efforts to promote the country's tourist attractions and enhance the flow of tourists to Tanzania.
