DAR-ES-SALAAM, The Tanzanian government is to improve its National Policy for Youth Development in order to create an enabling environment which builds the capacity of young people and promotes employment opportunities and access to social security, says Deputy Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office for Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, Labour, Employment, Youth and Persons living with Disabilities Anthony Mavunde.
He said here over the weekend that the youth portfolio was currently collecting views from youth which would help the government improve the National Policy.
Mavunde noted that so far the government, through the Youth Development Fund, had dished out more than one bllion shillings (about 447,000 US dollars) for start-up businesses to 395 youth associations countrywide. The government was now accepting business proposals from youth associations with the goal of establishing small industries, saying the government came up with the new idea to promote the government's main agenda of industrialization.
This is in line with the National Development Vision in achieving the status of middle income state, added Mavunde. He noted that previously youth associations would apply for one million shillings from the Youth Development Fund for start-up business, saying such an amount of funding could not bear fruit to most associations.
